Blood and urine are the most used biological media for HBM. This presentation describes some basic knowledge on blood and urine and the characteristics of some blood and urine biomarkers. Methods for sample collection are described, including pitfalls and contingencies. Approaches for aliquoting and storage are decribed. Keeping homogeneity is key to urine samples, whereas pretreatment by fractionation is important to consider. For storage cooling and freezing are disussed as well as addition of preservatives.
